Certainly not what I intended, just wanted to let everyone know that we're all still alive and kickin'.

I know that I've been a very bad blogger of late and for that, I apologize. I really have no good excuse for my absence either, does that make it worse? Yeah, we've been busy, but who isn't, right?

I think I'll try to pick up where I left off, in JANUARY. Yikes you better grab something to eat/drink and settle in, this could be a long one.

After our little trip to Chicago and the MITA ski weekend we had a few weeks of just the "regular" stuff. By regular, I mean weekdays filled with work, evenings filled with kids and various practices and weekends filled with basketball and soccer games. Whoo hooo!

We had a nice little break mid-February for the President's day weekend. This ended up being a kids weekend for us and we took advantage of the long weekend and took the boys skiing/snowboarding at Caberfae Peaks.

In March Rob and I attended the MITA Management Conference in Los Cabos, Mexico. We stayed here. This was Rob's second trip to Cabo and my first to Cabo or even Mexico for that matter. What an experience! We spent 8 days in Cabo. Each day we went on some sort of adventure. One day we and about 16 of our closest friends went ziplining and rock wall climbing. Another day we went ATV-ing through the dessert and on the beach. I proudly flipped my quad doing donuts and yes, I have a picture to prove it. We also took a day trip with friends to Todos Santos, home of the Hotel California. And for anyone asking, no the Eagles have never been there, and it was not the inspiration for the song but cool nonetheless. We also visited Cabo Wabo which is a bar/restaurant that is owned by Sammy Hagar. This was a bit of a disappointment, it was dumpier than I expected. Not sure why, I know Sammy Hagar is the picture of upscale refinement, isn't he?

For me the most exciting part of our trip was the whale watching. It was amazing to see them swim so closely to our boat and we actually had the opportunity to see one jump completely out of the water, unfortunately I did not have my camera ready for that sight, but my minds eye will never forget it.

Since then we've taken another whirl wind trip back to Chicago for a few days of the kids Spring Break. It was a first for Collin and Keaton. What an eye opener for them. I think it was a great experience for them to see that there is a whole world out there and that they have got it made. I think Keaton was really touched as he asked Rob to break a five dollar bill that he had been saving to buy a souvenir into five singles so that he could pass them out to several different homeless people on our final walk through the city. It was pretty sweet.

Now it's back to the grind for us. no big trips on the horizon, just the daily in's and out's of family life. Only 6 more weeks until the boys are on summer vacation!

Pictures From Cabo:

Sunrise
<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; It was a busy holiday season complete with family and friends. Now here we are in 2009(can't believe I'm actually typing that) with our schedules as full as ever! It's already been a busy January. The first weekend of the year, Rob and I were invited by some friends to join them for a weekend in the windy city. We love Chicago, mostly for the shopping and the food and this trip was no exception. We did a lot of shopping and hit some of the local pubs while we were there. We also did some touristy stuff. We had a drink on the 94th (I think) floor of the Hancock Tower, we ice skated at Navy Pier and we had to stop at Garrett's on our way home to get some of their famous carmel and cheesecorn mix. For some reason, Chicago never gets old!

Most recently Rob and I took the kids on the MITA Annual Ski Weekend at Boyne Highlands. This weekend is always lots of fun. The boys got to spend a fair amount of time skiing and snowboarding. It's really cool to watch them, they are so GOOD! I on the other hand am still snowplowing my way down the mountain. But, in my defense, this was only the 3rd time I skied in the last two years and before that it had been at least 10 years since I had skied at all. Honestly, I'm just happy that I didn't fall and that I'm still in one piece. And I can't forget about Rob. He's a very good skier, but no video of him though. He's the only one that could ski and use the camera at the same time. So with out further ado, here's a video of two of our four kids skiing and a third kid that looked a lot like one of ours but isn't (funny huh!?) oh yeah and me, gracefully skiing down the hill.

First you'll see Mitch boarding, he's in the orange jacket. Next is Collin, he's wearing a blue jacket. Then it's me (let's keep in mind that this was not a fashion contest), followed by a very good little skiier that looked like Keaton, but it isn't. Oh well.
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v19.nonxt1.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dc968b2258b0ef2d5%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331190030%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D7DB9151938DC6FBAF37E7C97D1446ECF9C5F4F63.2021DE2BDC0475561A1C36AD0BDB776BE2EA03E2%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dc968b2258b0ef2d5%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3Dt6JJ4J0Hqc3DF7nmYL3DDBJp_H8&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

We do have footage of Keaton whose video is here:

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v5.nonxt1.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dfdc209c485d39735%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331190030%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D1D16CF7ED1379CDF47D73DDEAC14C72914D56767.33DE3E9E909DBED3C43C889322B91643FD885D26%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dfdc209c485d39735%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DmSemznZSPXclp8hYkkX1oco68ls&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

And last but not least, here's Grant (he's first) with his friend Jake. The most common answer to this awful question is "nothing". And of course that is a COMPLETE lie. But that's how it goes. It's not really that the question is so awful as it is that I can't formulate into words what my family and I have been doing with our time. Or maybe it's because I think that none of it is interesting enough to share? Nah, we're totally interesting people, right? Or maybe it's because I'm a freak. Yeah, that's probably it. Anyway, the whole point of this blog is to share with family and friends, "what we've been up to". So before I forget, Here's what we've been doing:

I'll start with the boys. Collin and Keaton finished football almost 2 weeks ago. The season started off a little rough for both of them as football practice was pretty intense, especially in the beginning. The first week was strictly conditioning. That's 2 full hours of nothing but running, jumping , bear crawling and several other things that I'm sure I'm forgetting. Each practice for the boys was always 2 hours long and until the games started they went 5 days a week. Let me tell you, they slept very well on those nights. After games started, the practices were scaled back to three days a week, but still pretty intense.

This year was the first year for both Collin and Keaton and I think they both enjoyed it. But I wouldn't be surprised if only one of them returned to play again next year. For those who don't know, Collin was on and off about playing football and basically, I made him try it. At the beginning he was all like "Why are you making me do this?" and "I hate football". But for a kid who was unsure about playing, he really never complained about practice and toward the middle of the season he was rather enjoying being a part of the team and playing ( a team that went 7-0, I might add). He even earned himself MIP (most improved player) at the end of the season. This is a kid who joined a team of about 28 other boys most of which have been playing since they were 3rd graders and now they are 5th and 6th graders. So I think it was quite an honor for him and a serious confidence booster as well. Needless to say, as parents we are very proud of him and I'm happy I "made" him do it.

Now Keaton on the other hand, was super geeked to play football at the beginning. And his team even won their first game. But that was the only one. The went on to lose 6 straight games, which didn't do much for their confidence or their interest. I think Keaton would have enjoyed it more if he was give the opportunity to play the position he wanted to (running back). He didn't really understand that he would have to earn that position. Who know's, maybe next year. If he's not still ready to go back to playing soccer where he had the chance to be a ball hog(typed with love, of course) and score all the goals.

Mitch and Grant are our soccer super stars. They both play on "elite" teams or at least teams that play to win and aren't recreational. At any rate their outdoor season ended last weekend and Mitch will continue to sharpen his skills while playing indoor soccer this fall/winter. Grant has decided to try out for the basketball team. That will be very exciting. I expect that he will do very well and I'm sure he'll make the team.

Let's see, what else?????

We did just celebrate a couple more birthday's. My mom's birthday was on October 25th and Grant's was October 29th. We celebrated both birthday's on the 26th. At our house, when it's your birthday you get to choose your "special" birthday dinner and dessert. It's always fun to see what each child will pick for his day. When it was Collin's birthday, he chose steak and twice baked potatoes. He actually asked for crab legs as well, but thankfully for our pocket books, they were out. :) When it was Keaton's turn he chose Chicken and Rice Soup, or as he likes to call it, My Famous Chicken and Rice Soup. I had no idea that I was famous for it, but I guess to him I am. Then were on to Grant. He too chose the Chicken and Rice soup (must be pretty good) made by me and then his Dad's "famous" grilled cheese to go with it. Simple yet delicious. Grant also opted for Snickerdoodle cookies instead of cake. Good choice! He and I made them together, which was fun and special.

We also took our obligatory trip to Uncle John's Cider Mill. If it weren't for the fact that they do have the worlds BEST cider and doughnuts, I probably would never feel the need to go there. That place is super commercial, super expensive and super busy. The atmosphere is also really geared toward families with young children so I think by the time we've finished our cider and doughnuts everyone was ready to go.

Oh, I can't forget Halloween. It wasn't our weekend to have the boys for Halloween so we really didn't get to see any of them in costume, except for Keaton. He had a Halloween party the weekend before so I was able to snap a couple pictures of him then. I'm not sure what Mitch decided to dress up as, I think he was a ninja, Grant used the same costume as last year since he wore it at our house last year and this year he was at his mom's. I think he was some sort of skeleton ghoul. Way to recycle, G! And Collin bought a fedora(sp) hat and wore it. I'm not sure what he "was" but I think he looked like a white Michael Jackson minus the weirdness, Oh yeah he is white, isn't he? Anyway. Actually, it's both. Mitch and Grant have decided to continue their soccer(futbol) career's while Collin and Keaton decided to take a break from soccer and try football.

Finally our boys are at an age where the "organized chaos" of their sports is a little more organized and a lot less chaos. Which makes it so much more enjoyable to <del>endure</del>, I mean watch. Totally kidding, we love watching all the kids play!

Below, you'll find pictures of the boys in action. Wall at least three of them. As I scrolled through the photos that I've taken thus far, I've noticed a recurring theme in them for Keaton. In nearly EVERY photo he's got his hand in his mouth playing with his mouth guard. Doesn't matter if he's on the field or the sidelines, he's doing this:

As you can see, it appears to be contagious.

So really the only other action shot I have of him is when he was jogging off the field, without his hand in his mouth. :) Like this:

Thankfully the other boys haven't yet fallen to the hand in mouth epidemic. Here are some shots of Mitch, Grant and Collin working hard:

This is Mitch, he just had a wicked header. For those of you non-soccer folk out there that means that he hit the ball with his head. I'm just here to help.

Then check out Grant. That kid has got some speed and agility! And some serious determination, just look at his face (Grant is in the white, as the other kid looks rather determined as well):

And last but certainly not least is Collin (he's number #63). He's been working very hard on the field. Here's the proof:

So this is our life, chock full of sports, but it's fun and we love it.

Happy Birthday to KEATON!

What a difference a year makes. So, Collin's birthday was on September 9th and he turned 11. But because his Grandparents were coming in from out of town and because his special day fell on a Tuesday we decided to wait until the following Saturday evening to celebrate with the cake and the "big" presents. It was all about Collin that evening. He chose the dinner menu (steak and twice baked potatoes. He also chose crab legs, but thankfully when we went to Sam's club they weren't available)and he chose his cake. He was ready to celebrate. As illustrated by the photo just as Collin is ready to blow out the candles and make his wish, in swoops his little <strike>bother</strike>, I mean brother who blows them out for him. Isn't that just like a little brother to steal the show? Collin didn't seem to mind much though. Probably because I didn't give him a chance to. I immediately got all over Keaton for his little stunt. I think it's hard to remember that he is only 7 and that when it comes to birthday parties and cakes he can really only think about his own. Thankfully for him and for the other boys, Keaton's birthday is next Friday and he'll have his chance to blow out his own candles, all by himself. That is if we can keep Collin from doing it first. It started as normal trip would, get up early, drive to the airport and wait to board your plane. But that's when it got a little funny. As we were boarding the plane the head flight attendant looked at me, pointed and said "You!" And I was like me, what? She then proceeded to ask me to read the standard "stow carry-ons in the overhead compartment" verbiage over the PA system. Don't worry, we have a photo. See, there it is:

I actually got a little nervous, but now one could tell I guess. It was fun and made for a good story, right?

After that, things got back to normal, for a little while. About 3/4 way through the flight a voice comes over the PA, and asks if there are any doctors or medical professionals on the plane. Yikes! Evidently a guy toward the front of the plane had a grand mall seizure the plane ended up cruising over to Salt Lake City to get him some medical attention. Other than some minor injuries from whacking his head on the window and biting his tongue he was fine. No pictures of this event, just seemed rude. I kid.... I kid. I couldn't even see anything going on. Not that I would photograph it if I had.

So, where was I? Ah, yes.. so we finally land in San Francisco about two hours later than expected and in one piece, so I'm happy. We got our bags and headed off to rent a car. We were very fortunate here. We opted for the "full size" vehicle, because it was the cheapest. When we got to the lot to pick out our "full size" car there were a long line of Impala's and Camry's and then, there it was in the middle......a white Chrysler Sebring Convertible. Not that we are huge fan’s of that particular car, but Hello! it’s a convertible and we got it for the full size rate which was $30 a day cheaper than the “fun” car rate. Here’s the car, with me in it. Couldn’t fit our bags in the trunk, so we had to toss them in the back.

By the time we got checked in to our hotel and unpacked, it was time to get cleaned up and go grab some dinner. We stopped for a drink and a snack at Johnny Foleys Irish Pub where we chatted with the bar tender who suggested that we go to the Boulevard for dinner. What an awesome recommendation that was. There was a great atmosphere and the food was fantastic. Then it was back to the room to rest from a long day of travel.

Rob and I having Dinner at Boulevard.

Day Two: We walked and we walked and we walked. Did I mention that we walked. If I had to guess I’s day we probably covered about 8 to 10 miles that day. We saw everything from Bay Bridge, to China Town to Fisherman’s Wharf. Not to mention Lombard Street and Ghirardalli Square. Here are a few photos from all of those places.

Rob and BB King, Just kidding!

A view of Chinatown

Chinatown Market

Yes, These are dried fish.

Waiting to be devoured at Fisherman's Wharf:

Fresh Shrimp. Where the sun was shining. See, in the city this time of year it’s overcast and damp and cold. And here I thought California would be warm, even packed some capri’s. Never wore them. Only jeans and sweaters in the bay area in August. Anyway, first we stopped at the Muir Woods National Park. One word: AMAZING. Those redwoods are insanely big and beautiful and they smell good too! Didn’t take too many photos of the trees and they all begin to look the same and pictures just don’t do the majesticness (is that a word?)of it all. Did that make any sense? Just look at the photos and decide for yourself. Sorry, no scratch and sniff screen yet.

We took a tour thorough Napa Valley and Sonoma otherwise known as wine country. Most of it looked like this:

Fields and fields of grapes. Go figure. It was all quite beautiful and we did do a little wine tasting in Napa at a little restaurant called the Bounty Hunter.

That evening we attended a dinner reception for the conference that was being held there. The reason that brought us to the city. After dinner we went back to our favorite Irish bar, Johnny Foleys. At the bar we met Drew. He’s a local guy, born and raised in the bay area. He’s also a personal concierge. So he gave us the in’s and out’s of the city and suggested that we tour Sausalito on our last day there. We decided to take his suggestion and we were so happy that we did. Sausalito was a cute little town just on the other side of the bay with lots of shopping and art galleries and it also has the best sushi in town according to Drew. We agreed the sushi was De-lish! And a perfect ending to our long weekend.

This is Drew with Me and Rob

Sausalito

A little street in Sausalito

A rose bud in Sausalito

A view of the city:

The Golden Gate. We’re still in love with Chicago.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for school and sports related stuff. Kids go back to school on the fourth of September. We have a new middle schooler (Collin) this year and then we have two soccer players and two football players. It’s about to get crazy!

Hugs,

Danielle & Rob
p.s. They spent their week visiting Silversides (a submarine) WWII memorial, camping and tubing at West Lake in Muskegon and just hanging out with their grandparents. Grandma and Grandpa’s neighbor’s invited them to bring the boys and camp at their cottage on West Lake in Muskegon. In addition to tubing and swimming Collin swam across the entire lake with Jen, Grandma’s neighbor. It was about a half mile swim. Now don’t worry, Jen is a swim instructor and there were other adults in a paddle boat cruising right along side both Collin and Jen. Good thing he was with Grandma though, because I probably would never let him do that. But I’m glad he did and we’re very proud of him.

Collin, Keaton and Grandpa Teeple

Collin, Keaton and Grandma Teeple

Collin and Keaton

Collin and Keaton

Jumping off the swim doc at the cottage at West Lake

Collin and Jen swimming across West Lake

In front of Silversides WWII Memorial

Inside the Submarine

Making breakfast for Grandma and Grandpa, Keaton got cereal. :)

Thanks to our jobs Rob and I get the opportunity every year to participate in the MITA Summer Conference (we work for MITA and we plan these events). This year the conference was held at Crystal Mountain in Northern Michigan. Thompsonville to be exact. Even though this long weekend includes a little bit of work it’s always a ton of fun. The kids really look forward to this event every year and we are very fortunate to be able to participate in it. Anyway as usual, I took several photos of our time at Crystal (you can see them at the end of the post). The boys swam every day while we were there. They also rode on the Crystal Coaster, which is a luge slide. Actually we all did that one. What a blast! In addition to the luge and swimming we we went on a family canoe trip down the Platte River and two of the boys (Grant & Keaton) scaled the rock climbing wall. They both made it to the top to ring the bell. :)

Here's the cottage we stayed in at Crystal

Grandma Teeple with the boys at Crystal Mtn.

The Crystal Coaster Luge Slide

Mitch on the Crystal Coaster

Arcadia Bluffs Golf Course. We just decided to stay home and it really was one of the best decisions ever! It’s so nice not to have any plans or have to rush anywhere. Other than being sick that first day, the rest of the week was perfect. on Wednesday of that week, we decided to let the kids have a party and each of our kids was allowed to invite two, count ‘em two friends each over. For those of you that don’t do math, that mean’s if each child’s two friends came over we would have 12 boys in our care for the next 24 hours. And, that is exactly what happened. Except evidently 12 wasn’t enough for us. As we were taking some of the boys tubing around the lake, we saw another friend of theirs just hanging out with his mom and her friend. BORING! So we snatched him up for the night and included him in the chaos. Again for those with the math thing, that makes 13. Yikes.
Surprisingly all of the boys were so good. Eerily so. They all got along and Rob and I never heard one complaint. It was a day of swimming, tubing, water balloon fighting, video game playing and movie watching. I think we plan to make that a tradition for them.

Friday we decided to take the kids putt putt golfing at the putting course at Hawk Hollow. That’s a neat course! Once we wrapped up golf we headed home to get the boys packed up to leave for the weekend for the annual Kids Weekend at Hunter’s Ridge Hunt Club. Every year on the first weekend in August, Hunter’s Ridge Hunt Club hosts a kids weekend. Where fathers and kids all come together for a couple days of fishing, camping, target shooting and swimming! That’s another weekend that the boys really enjoy. They totally get to be one of the guys for two days. They get to eat all the junk food they can consume in 48 hours and there is no showering (unless you count jumping in the pond with a bottle of shampoo). Good Times!
While the boys were out, well being boys at the hunt club. I had a few high school girlfriends over for some company. It’s always so much fun to just hang out with the girls and to catch up with each other.

Here are some photos from Hunter's Ridge Kids Weekend

Keaton shooting a shotgun with a little help from Mr. Fisher

Mitch shooting a shotgun

Collin's Catch

Grant and Collin in action

Group shot! We had lunch and did a little shopping. It’s hard to believe, but Saturday was the one year anniversary of Barb’s passing. I know we all miss her very much.

In loving memory:

Sunday, the boys came home and I got to see them for a little bit before I had to leave to take Senior photos. I’m trying to get back into the photography thing and this is the 2nd Senior shoot I’ve had this year. I’ve also got a wedding coming up. Yea!

That pretty much sums it up. Now it’s back to the daily grind. I can hardly believe that it’s August already, not to mention that it is already the 8th. This weekend we have the Annual Keating Family reunion, then on Tuesday, it’s my birthday. Feel free to send cards and gifts. :) Just kidding! Well, sort of. :) ........

Friday the 15, Rob and I head out of town to San Francisco for a long weekend. He’s got business there and I get to tag along. Watch the blog for photos of that little excursion.

After that it’s two weeks until Labor Day weekend and good-bye summer. This summer has completely blown by. It’s madness.

Until next time (hopefully in a couple weeks, not a month),
Hugs,

Danielle

Holiday Weekend Recap

I love holiday weekends! Especially in the summer. There's nothing better than having fabulous weather on a few extra days off. Except of course having fabulous weather and a week off. I suppose that would be better.

This year Rob and I were without kids for our holiday although the photos below prove otherwise. The more accurate statement would be that it wasn't our holiday to have the kids. However, we did get to spend some time with Collin and Keaton on the Fourth, while their Dad played some golf. Below are few photos of the boys all decked out for the annual boat parade on our lake.

Here's Keaton.

And here is Collin

After the boat parade, we headed to a party hosted by a family in the neighborhood. Where we also ended up watching fireworks that evening.

The rest of the weekend was full of friends, food and sun! Just hanging out at home and enjoying our place on the lake. I have a feeling with gas prices and such, that's where most of our vacations will be. I can't wait!

Hugs,

Danielle

An Introduction

Welcome to our family blog.
